Capsular contracture after breast augmentation causes the implant to feel hard, tight, or painful as scar tissue thickens. Signs include breast firmness, misshapen appearance, rippling, or discomfort that worsens over time. In severe cases, the breast may feel overly firm and sit higher than normal. Pain, stiffness, or distortion can indicate progression to advanced stages. Mild cases might not need treatment, but severe contracture may require medications, massage, ultrasound therapy, or surgery to release or replace the implant.
